This past weekend I found myself standing in the handicap stall of the ladies restroom at my local Panera. What was I doing just standing there, you might wonder. Nursing Baby B. That's right, I was nursing my six month old standing up in the bathroom.
So that got me reminisicing about all the places I have nursed my Rosebuds. I have never been fond of exposing myself in public, so I have learned to be creative when it comes to nursing discretely. Here are some of the places I have nursed:
- In my car (this is my favorite when out and about)
- In a dressing room at a retail store. I have even been known to go into a store just to use their dressing rooms to nurse even if I am not shopping there.
- Just about anywhere in public using my nursing cover, including in Church and all over Walt Disney World.
- The family restroom/lounge at my local shopping mall. I have actually found the number of these types of lounges increasing. I even found one at the Florida Aquarium.
- At the ACC Football Championship game in December. I nursed her while sitting in the stands and also while sitting on an unoccupied pretzel stand. (It was REALLY cold that night too.....brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!)
Where is the strangest place you have ever nursed your baby? What is if your favorite type of nursing cover? Just curious!

Let's see, in a rental car, on an airplane, at a swimming pool...
I always just used a blanket. I'm not sure of it being a strange place, but when Buster was just days old and we were driving home from the hospital, we had to pull over on the side of the road not even five minutes after we left so that I could nurse him. LOL
Now, I have used a manual pump in many restroom stalls at the Mall of America in Minnesota. ;-)
I also nurse in the back seat of our Escape quite a bit... tinted windows are great! I've actually never nursed in a restaurant or similar public place... mainly b/c my husband is so uncomfortable about it. I'm going to do it one day, though just so I can show him how easy & discreat it can be done! (oh, I've nursed in dressing rooms and love nice "family rooms" at malls, too.)
By the third, I just nursed wherever.
Probably the funniest experience is when we were standing in line to see Santa. Oldest walking around, middle in the stroller, youngest on my boob, with my nursing cover on. I want to say that it's the peanut shell brand from BRU.
I think the only strange places I've nursed is on the airplane and in the car. Not very exciting! I'm really too paranoid to do it anywhere but the car...
Where haven't I nursed my son... I have nursed standing in the handicapped stall of Buffalo Wild Wings, but the one that I remember best was at the table (with a blanket over him) at Ruby Tuesday's. He didn't want to wait and was still small enough that I could nurse him right there and still eat! My hubby and MIL were sitting across from me.
Oh and then there was outside at a ribfest / concert this past Forth of July... I did use a blanket to cover, but he was almost 11 months old and had active hands and there were thousands of people walking around me!
Not too many strange places but lots of restaurants. Once at a funeral home in a 'quiet room' they had for people who needed to compose themselves.

What led you to nurse in the bathroom?
I've spent many nursings in the car. That's always... interesting. It's kind of cramped in there and I always debate on whether to cover up or not.
The most unusual? Nowhere really all that odd, but perhaps at the pool and at a nice restaurant.
Strangest place I've nursed my baby? Probably the Civil War reenactment. My hub is a big Civil War nerd. :) But I will nurse him anywhere as long as I have my cover. I am not comfortable letting it just all hang out!
