Ode to my gray hair

O wiry unsightly gray hair, How I deplore thee,

For nearly a decade have I waged this war.

Plucking, highlighting, and dying

You never cease to annoy me!

At the very young age of 24, a friend of mine walked past me as I sat at a desk and said, "Erin, YOU HAVE A GRAY HAIR!"

What the????

"Pull it out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" I squealed.

And he did. Later that day I scheduled my first appointment to have my hair colored.

At this point in my life, I have plucked them, "hid" them in blond highlights, and covered them in semi-permanent hair dye. Nothing is working. They inevitably rear their ugly follicles in 6 to 8 weeks. I am hesitant to go the permanant color route, for fear of having to color roots every 6 weeks, which is both expensive and time consuming.

Am I going to wage this war for the rest of my life?

You can bet your gray hair I am! My vanity will not have it any other way.

Gray hair...all I have to say to you is it is ON and you are going down!

Well now we have something else in common...premature graying! (Or it used to be premature for me. Now it's just age appropriate, ugh.)

My hubby is going grey prematurely. With him though, as soon as he cuts his hair again, it's hard to notice. I joke that I'm going to buy him "just for men" coloring so that he'll still look young.

I'm sorry you are fighting this battle. I'll probably cry when I get my first grey hair...that is, if I don't already have one!

Lol! You crack me up! My mom's hair is now just going blond - it isn't gray it is blond - no joke! I told her she had to lighten up on the highlights the last time I saw her and she said "No, it just is this color now! I am turning Blond!"
Of course, my brother and I made eye contact just in time to start a rousing chorus together of "I see your true colors shining through!"

I don't want my grays either. Time for me to wage a war of my own against them.

I've been dying my hair since I was 12. I should have bought stock in Clariol! Love your post.

You can do this! Don't let this defeat you! You are stronger than gray hair! I hope you have a blessed day!

Hi, I'm visiting from SITS!

I love this post. For years, I waged this war, and now at the young age of 30, I'm proudly wearing the grays like battle scars. (Ask me if I'm still doing that once I multiply a little more. *grin*)
